When it comes to employment, older workers are definitely something that has an issue. They are indeed competent and have enough wisdom which they gained through years of experience.  Also, they tend to work hard and put much effort on their work as they are aware that competition among younger employees and applicants are quite high. Thus, job security becomes less expected and because of these, mature workers are used to prove their capabilities and efficiency.

More to that, there are companies these days that doesn't hire older workers, this may seem illegal but it’s the reality. And because of such, competition with younger workers puts mature workers on the negative side. As companies believes that younger workers do have a lot of knowledge on what’s new compared to the latter.

Because of this issue, the government provided programs specifically for mature workers which serve as a training and learning program that will fill in the gaps that has something to do with knowledge, capabilities and skills.  This program ensures that older workers aged 50 and above will obtain nationally recognized qualifications.

It would be a great advantage for companies if they hire mature employees as they will for sure becomes the asset of every company.  Discrimination of age, ethnicity and gender only creates negative outcome, so better yet provide opportunity to everyone and grow a business profitably.

  1. Great article! I think the more mature population still deserve to work, especially if they are still strong and capable. And it's really great to know that the government is behind such an important endeavor.
